Description
Delosperma litorale, also referred to as the “white trailing ice plant” is a low spreading succulent indigenous to South Africa.
It is a type of “vygie” or “vetplant” (it forms part of the Mesembryanthemaceae family).

Spreads out horizontally and can cover slopes, banks and other areas.
Leaves of Delosperma litorale
The leaves of this species are triangular when cut in cross-section. The leaves are a dull green colour and produce stunning small white flowers.
The flowers bloom the most in mid spring and then occur intermittently for the rest of the year.

Delosperma litorale is an easy to grow and durable ground-cover that can be spaced 30 cm apart in order to form a dense mat to cover and protect soil surfaces.
This species adapts to variety of soil types and also requires low amounts of additional water. It needs approximately 300 mm of rain per year outdoors. Indoors one needs to water as observed.
A deep thatch of stems develops after a few years. Some stems can be removed and replanted propagate new plants and refresh the parent plant.
Unrooted plant cuttings can be planted during the spring and summer growing season to establish new Delosperma litorale plants.
