Description
Crassula mesembryanthoides is a relatively small succulent shrub endemic to South Africa.
People often spell and pronounce the species name as “mesembryanthoides”, however due to the fact that Haworth used the spelling “mesembryanthoides” in his original description of the plant, this has to be accepted as the correct scientific name.
Plant Care and Cultivation of Crassula mesembryanthoides
Crassula mesembryanthoides prefers full sun to partial shade. These plants can be grown indoors, however, special attention must be given to finding a particularly sunny spot on a windowsill.
These plants are not fussy about soil, however, good drainage is important, as water-logged soils will eventually cause the plants to rot.
These plants, as with other succulents, do not take well to consistent overwatering. Allow the plants to dry out somewhat in between watering, and also reduce watering in winter.
These plants are easiest to propagate by cuttings, however, seed propagation is also possible.
Growth Habit of Crassula mesembryanthoides
Leaves
Crassula mesembryanthoides has green to yellow-green, succulent leaves, that possess small interesting looking hairs.
Stems
The stems turn woody and reddish-brown over time, and eventually one can also observe roots growing from the nodes incase a branch breaks off (in which case vegetative propagation is possible).
Flowers
These plants produce small bell-shaped white to cream-coloured flowers, which are displayed in clusters at the end of the branches.
